Dog Tags and Licensing

All dogs over the age of three months must be registered with the City and have a valid dog tag.

Dog tags can be purchased online or at the following locations during regular business hours:

City Hall (169 Front St.)
Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward (34 Wallbridge Loyalist Rd.)
Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton Rd.)

Kennel Licences

Kennel licences can be purchased through our online application form.

A kennel, as defined in By-law 2005-206, is a property where the main activity is raising, boarding or training dogs. It does not include a pet store, veterinary clinic, animal shelter or a property operating an approved dog or cat fostering program under the authority of the Society.

This application is for new and renewals; the same application applies.

Licence Fees

Intact Dog Licence $50

Spayed or Neutered Dog $30

Veterinarian’s Certificate is necessary to certify that dogs have been spayed or neutered and immunized.

Intact Dog Licence (Senior Citizen Rates – Owner 60+) $40

Spayed or Neutered Dog (Senior Citizen Rates – Owner 60+) $20

Veterinarian’s Certificate is necessary to certify that dogs have been spayed or neutered and immunized

Replacement Fee for Lost Tag $10

Replacement Fee for Licensing New Dog $10

Due to loss of a previously licensed dog.

Impound Fees $100 + $25 Daily Care Fee

For the extent of the five day redemption period excluding impound day.

Kennel $150

Owner of a kennel for purebred dogs duly registered in the registry of the Canadian Kennel Club and holding a current kennel license.

Special Provisions

Veterinarian’s Certificate is necessary to certify that dogs have been spayed or neutered and immunized.
The owner of a properly certified guide dog shall not be required to obtain a tag for such dog.
The tag fee for dogs registered for the following year, in accordance with the terms of the by-law, after Sept. 30 shall be 50% of the fees specified above.
The tag fee for newly adopted dogs or puppies, or new residents within a calendar tag year be reduced by 50% of the fees specific above.
